Travel journal: Chennai Dairies.
East Mogappir, Chennai. Visiting this place after 10 years. The center-point, Madras Medical Mission.
Where exactly was I?
Between "nowhere" and "somewhere"!
What was I doing there?
Going for short outings in the midst of my short term family assignment and capturing small moments of memories.
Chennai, the most pleasant place to be in the dead of winter; a place one could move around in Tees and shorts.
The warmly pleasant sea-breeze in the evenings would add to the vibrant life of the Chennai streets, and my walks would invariably end up with the cup-and-saucer filter coppee.
What did I see there?
The lady flower sellers with the smell of mischievous flowers; which had a penchant for emanating more of their fragrance in the evenings.
A mix of the poor and rich residential places.
Food stalls with quirky names, the large shopping mall with the flutist and a large panel with a magnificent painting of the tug-of-war between the gods and demons, small wayside shrines. Its always nice to explore the by-lanes of large cities on foot.
Always a treat for the senses; the sights, the sounds, the smells, the tastes and the warm envelop of the sea breeze.
Finally, the visit, brief as it was, was certainly worth it.
I am happy to agree with the sign..."Chennai I Love"..as I sign off this page in my travel dairy!
