Flight
This poem was written during one of the lowest periods in my career. While during my initial working years I was given the oppurtunity to fly high, the last few years on that job proved particularly difficult. At that time, I felt as if I was hurtling down from the skies and my wings were badly broken. It was during this crises that I realised what it is to hold God's hand and rely on Him for the future, no matter how difficult the present. As I reflect on those years, I am thankful to God for having not only restored me but given me stronger wings to soar higher!
Give me wings and let me fly,
Far and unfettered in the boundless sky;
And up above from the crisp of blue,
Give me sight to look below,
To see the pattern the grand earth forms,
Its rims and borders spread like flowing gowns.
Beyond my sight, O Lord, I ask,
Give me vision to see beyond
The humdrum of my daily dues,
The goals to pursue and the dreams to choose.
But most, my God, I would from you take,
Your joy, peace and in You faith,
That when vast unknowns surround,
My wings get broken; sight, vision unfound;
That I still have Your hand to hold,
The Knower of mysteries and dreams untold.
This brings me to a song which I listened to many years ago. Today as I reflect on the words I find it so much relates to my poem. It is God who takes away my times of brokeness and gives me wings to soar as an eagle.
