Bad Maths

Matthew 10:29  Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.
Matthew 10:31  Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.
Luke 12:6  Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?
Luke 12:7  But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.

From the above passages of the Bible figure this out!

If two sparrows worth a farthing, then what would two farthings get you?

If you got four sparrows as an answer then you are wrong. For the passage clearly states that 2+2=5!!!

How is this possible?

I learnt this from my Bible teacher. We were out shopping at the local market one day and a seller with five woven bamboo stools caught my teacher's attention. After a hard bargain, the seller was ready to give the stools for 10 units of the local money. Since my teacher needed only 4 , he pulled up 40 to finally pay the seller. The seller instead gave all 5 for the sum!

The extra stool was not so much needed by my teacher yet he took it as it was for free. The seller on the other hand, had made the requisite profit and did not want to spend any more time selling the single stool. What value was the last one stool to the buyer or the seller? Hardly any!!!

Yet, later as my Bible teacher would explain....even these last unwanted pieces in the bargain of day-to-day lives is of immense value.

God was concerned about the fifth sparrow which was of no value either to the seller or the buyer!!!!

If God is so concerned about this fifth sparrow, can we not be sure of how much more He must care for us.

That day, I had learnt an important lesson of God's care and concern over our individual lives; that, no matter how inconsequential we may be to the world, God cares for each one of us. Later on in life, when things in my life got really bad...I would start looking for the sparrow to be reminded to "cast all my cares upon Him, for He cares for me" (1 Peter 5:7) And , He would always be faithful!!!!

And here's to this another wonderful song:
