H: His Hands

Image
The phrase "hand of God" has been looked at in a variety of ways! Begginning from Maradona's winning goal in the world cup...to the sinister ways in which things are done in my country only to atttribute it to "the hand of God"....the phrase has been more often misused than used appropriately. Sometimes it has also been used to denote a punishment...or a misfortune in one's lfe, implying that something unfortunate has happened in one's life as a form of punishment from God. Do some people think of their lives as being bound with the "Puppeteer's strings" and God or karma....will carry them as "was willed or destined"...here again we see the control of the sinister "hand of God". For me, the Hand of God has meant comfort. So often, I picture God standing behind me, laying His hand on my shoulder and comforting me. Have I been sad and dismayed? Have I been lost and broken? I can feel His hand. Sometimes the hand ...

T: TRUST that is childlike

Image
I have spent several weeks before being able to write this post. I have been trying to find what best describes the unique child-like trust. How many of us take the ability to walk and move around for granted. Can we think of the time when we as babies first learnt how to stand, to crawl and then unsteadily to walk. How often we must have fallen down and as many times our parents and guardians picked us up and taught us how to walk. How often do we also falter during our spiritual walk; and fall down. As often, we have a Father to pick us up. I have wondered what is it that enables the child to finally walk confidently; his innate sense of balance and movement or the training he receives from his loved ones! A little bit of both I guess. Likewise God knows how we are fashioned; with an innate image of his likeness, but marred by sin. Every time we fall down, He is there to pick us up and hep us walk. The child's trust therefore is not just the child's innate sense of ...

U: Under His wings

Image
God's Wings... God's Wings -A little something to put things in perspective... After a forest fire in Yellowstone National Park, forest rangers began their trek up a mountain to assess the inferno's damage. One ranger found a bird literally petrified in ashes, perched statuesquely on the ground at the base of a tree. Somewhat sickened by the eerie sight, he knocked over the bird with a stick. When he gently struck it, three tiny chicks scurried from under their dead mother's wings. The loving mother, keenly aware of impending disaster, had carried her offspring to the base of the tree and had gathered them under her wings, instinctively knowing that the toxic smoke would rise. She could have flown to safety but had refused to abandon her babies. Then the blaze had arrived and the heat had scorched her small body, the mother had remained steadfast ...because she had been willing to die, so those under the cover of her wings would live. 'He will cover you with...

R:The Road

Image
Pastor Andrews, that day when you preached from the book of Ruth, I was to make my most important decision. You spoke eloquent about the girl who was ready to take a different road. Like her, I was at the cross-roads. You said "the road you take determines your destiny". My destiny,I understood, was to be a product of my choices. That day, I turned away from the herd, to choose, the narrow, less travelled road. Even then, as before and now I had a friend ; wise and dependable, whose hand I could hold. His presence mattered, much more than the road. Then again, I was told, a triple briaded rope is not easily broken and that two is better than one... and I chose another friend to travel with me along the road. Today, is yet another crossroad but by now I have known, To put my hand in His, and I will never be alone.

A friend's blessing

May the roads rise to meet you, May the wind always be at your back, May the sun shine warm upon your face, The rains fall soft upon your fields, And until we meet again, May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.
